Leaky transmissions can be a pain, not only do they make a mess on the underside of your car, and in your driveway, but the transmission fluid is expensive and inconvenient to deal with. At Alvie's Transmission Service Unlimited in Jacksonville, FL we want to provide you with some information on where transmission leaks start and how to end them so that maybe we can eliminate any future leaks.

Manual transmissions aren’t necessarily simple, but they’re much easier to understand in concept than their automatic counterparts. You’re probably aware there are gears in manual transmissions - but there’s a little more to it than that. Here are some of the major components you’ll find in a manual transmission.

Shafts - There are three main shafts inside a manual transmission. There’s an input shaft where engine power is transferred via the clutch, and that drives the layshaft, also known as the countershaft. The countershaft has different sized gears to achieve various gear ratios. Corresponding gears on the countershaft connect to the output shaft. The output shaft is connected to the driveshaft, which powers the differential.

This place is TOP NOTCH! GREAT people. Seem very honest and straight shooters. Alvie and his partner seemed to be genuinely great people from start to finish. I was traveling from South Florida to up north while towing a boat and needed a new trans put in after it blew up on 95. It’s an old truck and he noticed a few other things that weren’t that safe and fixed them for very cheap just to make sure I was good. I live 4 hours away from the shop. I explained to him that I was having some issues with my father who had a stroke and couldn’t make it up to him for a couple of weeks and I really wasn’t sure when I’d even get there but I really needed my work truck back. They ended up finding someone to tow my truck to me for just the gas money. 8-9 hour round trip and I only paid for gas. They really went above and beyond to get me my truck when they knew I was having trouble getting up to get it. Great people and I will be a customer for life if I ever need them for anything! Thank you, guys!

We were traveling from southwest Florida to Savannah and started having car trouble. We were sent to Alvie’s Transmission and from the time we pulled in they were very helpful. We were a car load of six women and they were very honest about what may be wrong and recommended what to do, even offering solutions like driving the van to my home town. If you are in this area, don’t hesitate to use Alvie’s.

Prevention is better than cure. You've probably heard that said plenty of times. The phrase is most often used to talk about health and medicine, but it is just as valid to apply it to vehicles. It's great if your problem can be sorted without much trouble, but even better not to have a problem in the first place. This is especially true when it comes to your vehicle's transmission, as this can be one of the more specialized parts to repair. Not all transmission problems require an extensive overhaul, but they will all cause at least some trouble and inconvenience. Avoiding transmission problems is clearly preferable to even the problems that are quickest and cheapest repair. This is why it is important to ensure you take good care of your transmission. This will help prevent problems and keep it working smoothly. Ideally, it will mean that it doesn't develop any faults at all. Even if it does eventually go wrong, however, it is entirely possible that good care will mean the fault is less serious and easier to repair than it would have been otherwise. Here's some insight on how to prevent problems from our team here at Alvie's Transmission Service Unlimited.
